Copyright and Takedowns

Scribiz respects copyright. Send a notice through the contact form and we will act on it promptly. This page explains what a notice needs, what we do, and how to answer one.

What Scribiz holds

Scribiz does not host videos and does not publish pages about them. Media is deleted when a job ends. A result is a private link for the person who asked for it. It expires after 24 hours, or 30 days with an account, and search engines are told not to index it. For speed we keep a cache keyed by a video's identifier, and we serve it only when someone asks for that same video.

A transcript of someone else's video can still touch their rights, so we take notices seriously, and we also say plainly in the terms that republishing a transcript needs the owner's permission.

Send a takedown notice

Send it through the contact form with all of the following, in one message of up to 5,000 characters. A notice that leaves something out may not be actionable.

  1. Your physical or electronic signature, or that of someone authorized to act for the copyright owner.
  2. A description of the copyrighted work you say was infringed.
  3. Where the material is: the Scribiz result link, which starts with scribiz.com/r/, or the address of the source video it was made from.
  4. Your name, postal address, telephone number and email address.
  5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
  6. A statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or are authorized to act for the owner.

Knowingly sending a false notice can make you liable for damages under 17 U.S.C. 512(f). If you are not sure the use is infringing, think about that first.

What we do

  • Remove the result the notice points to.
  • Purge cached data for the source video, and stop that video from being processed again.
  • Tell the person whose result it was, with a copy of the notice, unless the law stops us.
  • Suspend accounts that are the subject of repeated valid notices.

Send a counter-notice

If we removed something and you believe that was a mistake, or that the use is lawful, send it through the contact form with:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature.
  2. What was removed and where it appeared before removal.
  3. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief it was removed because of a mistake or misidentification.
  4. Your name, postal address, telephone number and email address.
  5. Your consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for the district of your address (or, outside the United States, any district where Scribiz can be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the notice.

We pass the counter-notice to the person who sent the original notice. Unless they tell us within 10 business days that they have started a court action, we may restore the material in 10 to 14 business days.
