    Speaker 1

Welcome back to the show. My guest today runs a bakery with no storefront.

  2. 0:07

    Speaker 2

Thanks for having me. We sell out by nine every morning, from a side window.

  3. 0:14

    Speaker 1

Let us start there. Why no shop?

  4. 0:18

    Speaker 2

Rent. The window costs a tenth of what a shop on that street would.

Getting the audio of an episode

A podcast is a list of audio files behind a feed. Scribiz needs one of those files, not the page of the show. If you make the show, you already have the file: drop the MP3 or M4A you uploaded to your host.

For a show you listen to, open the episode on the website of the show or in an app that has a Download or Copy link to audio option. A link that ends in .mp3 or .m4a can be pasted as it is. A link to Spotify or Apple Podcasts opens a player, not a file, so download the episode and drop it.

Is the episode on YouTube too? Paste that link on the YouTube transcript page. It uses the captions when they are good, which costs less.

Speaker labels in a podcast transcript

Each paragraph carries a speaker label and the time it starts. Labels are Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on, in the order the voices appear. Scribiz does not know names, so rename the host and the guest in your editor after export.

Two voices are told apart well. A panel of four with people talking over each other gets mixed up, and so does a guest on a poor phone line. An intro with music under the voice is transcribed, the music is not described.

Host and one guestTwo labels that hold through the episode.
Panel or call-in showLabels that can swap when people overlap. Check the busy parts.

Show notes, chapters and captions

The Summary tab is a draft for show notes: a short summary and the key points, each with its time. The Chapters tab lists the sections of the episode with start times, in the form podcast apps and YouTube descriptions take.

Publishing the transcript helps people who read and people who search. Export Markdown or TXT for the page of the episode, or SRT and VTT for a video version. At 128 kbps the 100 MB the browser takes is about 1 h 49 min of audio, and at 64 kbps about 3 h 38 min.

Need only the short version? The video summarizer takes audio files too. Any other audio format is on audio to text.

Limits

  • Audio files up to 100 MB, or a link that points straight at the audio file.
  • A show page on Spotify or Apple Podcasts is not a file and does not work.
  • Without an account: episodes up to 15 minutes and 10 minutes a day.
  • A free account takes recordings up to 2 hours and 30 minutes a month. Pro takes 6 hours and 600 minutes a month.

Frequently asked questions

Not from the page of the show. Those links open a player, and many episodes are copy-protected. Download the episode, or find the direct link to its audio file, and use that.

It labels them Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on. It does not know names. A host and one guest work best, and a larger panel can get mixed up where people overlap.

The browser takes 100 MB, which is well over an hour of a normal podcast MP3. Length limits: 15 minutes without an account, 2 hours with a free account, 6 hours on Pro.

Yes. The Chapters tab lists sections with start times, and the Summary tab gives a short summary and key points you can edit into show notes.

Markdown or TXT for the page of the episode, SRT or VTT for a video version, and JSON if a script will read it.

The audio is deleted when the job succeeds, or within an hour if it fails. The transcript stays on a private link for 24 hours, or 30 days with an account.
